Hi all
My boy Ronnie developed a lump on his cheek recently. I was away overnight and when I came back he was swollen and couldn’t open his eye properly. I took him to the vets, who didn’t want to gas and investigate then, but gave me Baytril. They said if there was something in there, they couldn’t do anything.
This can’t be true right? Because if it’s an abscess this could be lanced? It would be hard to get there, but I could look at referring to an exotics specialist.
The day after he seemed much worse and he seemed in pain and his fur was matted. However Ron was better the day after and is now much better on the Baytril. His eye is fine again and the swelling has gone down, but he still seems to be swollen on one side. He has stopped scratching at it and squeaking and he is much more energetic again. He is eating dry food, chewing on wood etc. He seems back to normal apart from the slight lump. However tomorrow is 10 days of twice daily Baytril.
When I saw the different vet at the surgery last Weds they said they would scan him if it didn’t go down, and also that he looks healthy and is 129g so not underweight!
Before I went away I cleaned the cage, put new hay in and he had also been chewing a new toy. I wonder if it could be a splinter of some sort. But my fear is that he has some kind of tumour? Is there anything I can look for whilst I am at home to help me eliminate possibilities?
Also if he needs to take antibiotics for any longer I will have to give him this alone. Does anyone have any tips for this? I’ve really struggled without my friend helping...
