Hi all, I’m new to the forum. My gerbil, Casper, has been diagnosed with a scent gland tumor, which of course I want to get removed. My original vet quoted me $1,200 for the mass removal, and I then went to a second vet, had him examined, and they estimated about $700 for the surgery not including the initial physical. When I researched the procedure beforehand I saw numbers more along the lines of $200-$300, so I was wondering if $700 is steep for this procedure or not?

that is a lot, so I would see if other vets near you are less. I would ask on the phone, now that is the only way they will do it anyway, but say you went to two other vets and tell them what they are charging and that you can't afford that. I would also ask if they have experience with rodent surgery.

Hey mernico - did you get a better price for the op or decide to just go ahead with it anyway? Sometimes finding the right vet is better than doing it elsewhere just on price? I know I drove my gerbils miles to go to the right vet for their ops.
