Hello all.
I am wondering how you guys all keep your shavings and other gerbil gubbins under control - as my small vacuum is aannoying me with the amount of bag changes I get through with my new jirds - and loss of suction.
So, I am looking for a small, light, bagless vacuum to use instead to save money for starters, and also bags - but also so I don't have to use the 'house' vacuum all the time (need to keep it hay-free for the actual carpet)?
Anyway - so is anyone using such a thing right now that they could recommend - before I start scouring the internet for every vacuum known to mankind?
Thanks.

Hi. Not sure if it would be right for you, but I have a Goblin stick vacuum cleaner (GSV401W). It's not the most powerful but isn't too expensive and is easy to empty and use. I find it quite useful to hoover up bits of gerbil bedding that sometimes falls out of their topper. For some reason they love to take up pieces of hay and bits of bedding to chew up there! It can be used as an upright cleaner or as a handheld vacuum which is reasonably light (must be if I can use it)! It's quite useful for picking up dust and bits of bedding round the skirting boards.

Thanks jal - it looks perfect - but it doesn't say if you can easily take the brush head off in the description I have found.

The brush can be removed for cleaning if hair gets wrapped round it. You need to use a small coin. It's easy, just a bit fiddly but I don't need to do it very often. It's not a vacuum I would use for the whole house but is very good for hoovering small areas.

Ah, I vacuum a lot in all my nooks and crannies without the vacuum head, so that might be a bit fiddly?
Mind you everything other than that sounds good, so might be worth the hassle???
Thanks again for your comments.

I'm sorry, I think I misunderstood your question, must have been half asleep! You can remove the brush head part to turn it into a handheld vacuum very easily, just with the press of a button. There are a couple of attachments you can fit on the end to hoover skirting boards and so on. It has pretty powerful suction when used in this way.

Cool - even better than I thought then - I will end my search and just click the BUY button!
Thanks again...

Just to say - I couldn't get hold of that one in the end and ended up buying a Vytronix Bagless hand-held instead.
It's not the best for what I need I'll admit! Maybe I didn't think it through properly?
The reviews were all good (and the price) but it has a few downsides that make it worse than my current bagged hoover!
Firstly the tiny head attachment I need to go under things attaches to the main bulk - not the end of the tube - so I can't vacuum under things easily. Secondly, you either have to take it apart into three parts to empty the container - or carry the cable and plug to the bin with you.
Also and not anticipated at all - I have long hair - and this vacuum doesn't vacuum them up! It just drags them across the floor into a clump. I have to pick them up by hand (not the end of the world as it is after all - my own hair) but the tube is longer than my arm - so I have to actually move the vacuum behind me to crouch down and pick them up!
Honestly - the things we call problems, eh?

It sounds very similar to the Goblin attachment. Until I had my hair cut short recently I also had the problem of long hair. It picked the hairs up but they just wrapped tightly round the brush head. I had to regularly cut them off with scissors and remove the entire brush head from time to time which is quite fiddly. Not a major problem but it is annoying! I heard Shark vacuum cleaners deal with long hair the best but I've never tried one yet. They're quite expensive but might be worth it.

Shark eh - I like the sound of that!
However, I won't be buying another vacuum until one of these breaks now - I think 2 that have each others missing features (?) actually make a whole good one!!!!
Never mind...
