I don't think bumblefoot or tail injuries would be an issue with that wheel (it has a solid surface and there's nothing that could create a scissor effect), but it's too small for gerbils. A gerbil wheel should be at least 8.5 inches, but I would always use an 11 inch wheel because anything smaller can cause a curvature of the tail. Even 11 inches gave my gerbil a slight, temporary curve in her tail when she used it a lot.
Tictacwheels.co.uk sells some large metal wheels, though they're temporarily closed at the moment.

Maybe you can consider a hard plastic silent spinner instead of a metal wheel? They are a lot more accessible than a good metal wheel.
I used to be very concerned about my gerbils chewing through a plastic wheel as well, but I've had a silent spinner for months and they have not managed to make a single dent in the wheel yet.

I had a Silent Runner, and I took it out after <2 weeks because the boys were chewing on it.

I would like to get a metal wheel but have never gotten round to it. I currently have a wooden one but I don't think it's going to be around much longer. The only reason I wouldn't is is because my gerbils only use their wooden one and one of them didn't go near their plastic one.

Hey blp - did you go for the metal wheel in the end - hopefully the biggest one you could fit in your enclosure? If not - what was it that changed your mind? I haven't tried a metal one before for gerbils - but have used large solid metal wall-hanging ones for larger mammals. Anyway - hope you gerbils are happy whatever you decided!

Hi I haven’t got a wheel yet. I love the look of the metal ones by tictacwheels but the metal ones don’t have a stand and I have a tank with no way to attach the wheel. All the others I’ve found are mesh which doesn’t appeal to me. Does anyone else have other options? I’ve had wooden wheels before but they chewed up the stand and destroyed the cork lining on the running track.

They sell metal stands separately for those wheels, although the page states it's only for 12"+ wheels , that seems odd that it wouldn't fit smaller wheels, so I'm going to ask them about that.
Btw, seeing as these are going to be heavier than plastic and presumably(?) wooden wheels, will Gerbils be able to turn it ok??

I've just ordered a 10" metal wheel and stand from tictac, I hope the Gerbils will use it! lol (don't have Gerbils yet).
