One of my almost 4 year old gerbils has developed a growth on the side of his face. I suspect it could be a dental abscess but I don’t know. It feels kinda soft/maybe fluid filled. He’s had it for at least two weeks. Aside from that, he is eating & drinking normally and still extremely active. He does not seem phased by it. No hair is missing and I don’t see any redness; just the swelling.
I have not made a vet appointment yet and have been giving him colloidal silver recently while I’ve searched for a vet. I am wondering if draining it might be possible without anesthesia/x-rays. I’m wary of putting an older gerbil through that and I am low income and my life is currently in an upheaval as I prepare to move(he & his brother are coming with me). Any advice or sharing experiences with growths is appreciated.

it would be best for him to see a vet but if you can't afford that then i guess you can wait and see if it bursts on its' own. i'm not sure if colloidal silver is safe for gerbils and if it's an abscess, he may need antibiotics. you could maybe try manuka honey on it topically to see if that helps it burst or heal it up.
