Hello,
I have managed to find a single female gerbil with a rescue charity who is on her own, to split with my single female. However, she comes with an interesting back story.
she was Part of a trio, and the alpha of the group passed away. The two sisters were found to have cannibalised the remains (which I’ve heard is normal) But when the body was removed, the two sisters fought to be the alpha, which I suppose is natural. This gerbil won, and drew blood from her sister. They have now been separated and she has been up for adoption.
im wondering whether it is too risky to introduce her to my female. My female is a year younger, and very tiny in size. She was the submissive gerbil In Her last pair, but had to be kept in check. I understand the Gerbil at the adoption centre may not be aggressive by nature, since she got along fine with the others until her sister died, and there’s fewer complications with a pair, but is she best kept as a loner gerbil or can i attempt to introduce her to my girl? I understand there’s a risk either way.
Any advice Would be helpful!

Hi there.
Well, you can never say who will get on with ho long term for sure in the gerbil world. However, you are alamost at an advantage if you have one that wants to be more dominant and one not so much - that way - when they split intro together they should slip into those roles each without too much trouble (well as far as females go anyway).
There are some gerbils who just don't understand gerbils and are better on their own - but in my experience - these gerbils are the ones in an existing clan who get beaten up?
Hmm.
