Hello all, I hope your lockdown experience is going well! I have a question that I think I already know the answer to! Gerbil teddy’s. One of my little ones unfortunately passed away recently, I am looking into getting a new tank mate for my occupying gerbil but she seems to be getting a little bit down! She has a spot she stand when wanting my attention and I always immediately go and give her fuss but when I leave the room and come back I have noticed her eyes half closed and she looks “depressed” as a better way of putting it. I give her lots of attention and strokes when she’s up and she has lots to do and chew, but I was wondering if I could get a small rodent teddy for her to cuddle (and likely chew up) but I just worry that the material and synthetic wool wouldn’t be good. Anyone have any advise on how to keep her happy! Thank you so much

nothing made of cloth or with string/thread is safe to give gerbils unfortunetly. She would be happier if she has enough bedding to dig in (8 to 10 inches), safe cardboard to chew up, a wheel, some pots or non plastic homes to sit in or on, maybe something new that is safe for gerbils will interest her? does she get out of tank time to play? a bathtub or a playpen that she can't jump out of with some new stuff to check out may help her cope until you can find her a new friend. just make sure to quarantine for 2 weeks and split cage and take it slowly. Sometimes it takes them afew days to adjust to being on their own, give her afew extra treats and attention and that may help her.
