Afraid I can't help you there, I'm just curious as to what country you're in though? Croatia. I made a decision, I'm getting the 2 boys today. Much easier solution for a newbie, then 3 females. I'm afraid of declanning.

Yep, that's true , even if they've been in a petshop for a while, I would think. Post pics when you get them

Post pics when you get them Here are the boys: Here is their new house: They adore their new cage, but for some reason, they haven'n still discovered the way to the tank. They have sniffed the tube entrance many times, but have never entered inside. I would help them for the first time (I'm sure that when they go to the tank once, they will know how to do it everytime), but I don't want to touch them the first few days (until they are 100% stress free). Hopefully the will reach the tank by themself today or tomorrow.

Aww they're so sweet! Interesting set-up btw. Your gerbils are probably still a bit too shy to do much, I remember when I first got my gerbils, they did little more than hide in a toilet roll tube XD

But the tank is still a mistery for them.

Once they work out what the tube does they'll use it fine. I have a plastic extending tunnel that I use so my gerbils can get from their tank to the floor for playtime, and they were unsure at first but they run down it fine now. I had to pick them up and place them in the tunnel the first couple of times. As long as yours have everything they need in the cage I wouldn't worry just yet. After a few days if they still haven't worked the tunnel out, you could pick them up in a jar or tube and put them in the tunnel.

hmm maybe put them in the tank for a little while and see if the get the hang of the tube business? If you are wary of picking them up at the moment, you can put something long like a tube or a box in the cage and wait for them to clamber in. I'm sure they'll get the hang of it soon though!

Gorgeous Gerbils It took one of my Gerbils 3+ days to work out that he could go down one of the ramps to another section, and that is open! lol , I'm still not sure if the other has gone down! Btw, still concerned about the separate tanks with a single entry point....

Btw, still concerned about the separate tanks with a single entry point.... I would be concerned too. 15 or so years ago I think it used to be more common to keep gerbils in modular setups like Rotastak, so it's not necessarily guaranteed to cause a declan. It's something to keep a close eye on.

Btw, still concerned about the separate tanks with a single entry point.... You think 2 entry points would be safer? The cage has another exit (the yellow/green one above the wheel). So in theory I can make another entry/exit point that could end on the other side of the tank (the red line on the photo would be the path): BTW, today I put both gerbils in the tank (I've used a glass jar with some seeds to lure them inside...I still don't touch them). They quickly found the entrance to the tubes (much easier then in the cage), but they have a problem when they must exit the tubes. It looks they are afraid when is time to go down (have no problems to go up). Hopefully is only a matter of gaining courage (same when we humans must jump in the water from some higher height for the first time).

I think it may well help, but really it needs experienced Gerbils owners to answer that point, their maybe unforeseen problems. My Gerbils avoided going down the ramps for a few days! (actually I only know for certain that one is going down them). One problem I know you're very likely to have, as I mentioned in my post on the 4th, Gerbils will very likely chew the ends of the tubes. Rotastak used to supply stainless steel rings to go over the end of the tubes. But I don't know if they're still available, or if it would fit your tubes. But maybe the supplier of the tubes you have may have them?

But maybe the supplier of the tubes you have may have them? I've searched for the rings the day you posted about them. It looks they do not produce them anymore. There were a lot of critics, people said that the rings rusted quickly, so they had to buy new ones over and over again, and the costs were to high. So people stopped buying them.

darn, they must have downgraded the quality of their stainless steel! As it simply doesn't rust when they put enough chromium in it! The older rings I have haven't rusted at all, but some of the later ones have a little bit. Maybe you could get someone to make them? Machiners or black smiths?
