honestly, I couldn't not have a wheel for them, they always go on it each evening and go mad for it :D (Although, I'm wondering if this is because they haven't got the space to run naturally in their cage...)

Well they won't be chewing my steel one!, at least not with any success , though I did notice Blake having a nibble on the plastic end cap for the tubular stand. Good point about wood could be broken down, at least to some degree.

gerbilord about 4-5 yrs ago researchers put a wheel on the edges of a wood and left a camera there, even wild mice were running on it! lol seems some just love to run! The article has a thread here in the science section.
