I can't find ANY gerbils in the LA, CA area, but I'm sure there are some. I just don't know where to look. Thanks for your help!

Hello - have you contacted the American Gerbil Society?
They can put you in contact with a local breeder or help you find one that suits your needs and then potentially can assist you in couriering them to you through an insured animal handler or that/another breeder driving cross country to a show.
Good luck!

Gerbils are unfortunately illegal in California and that is why there isn't any breeders there.

Ah, I didn't even red the title of the thread - yes, they may well still be illegal in California - although I do hear of people in that state owning gerbils?
Perhaps, you DO need to contact the AGS to find out more?

You'd think they'd allow neutered Gerbils there (say with a vets certificate or similar), that way if they escaped, it's not going to be a real problem for their environment. Too hard to keep track of maybe? But then so is simply people just ignoring the rule and owning them anyway!

Yes, I know that some breeders have found a loophole for duprasi over in the States - so it is certainly worth finding people in the know on these things - just incase!
