I'd love to see pictures all set up for Christmas - definitely link to them. I've never understood why there's no gerbil calendars. I'm sure there's enough of us that would buy them, given how many other options of calendars of obscure things there are out there.
Has anyone managed to get their advent calendar all set up ready for gerbil treats yet?

Today the gerbils got their first surprise treat - I wanted to explain, I didn't have time to buy them a pretty wooden advent calendar in the end because it wasn't going to get here on time (my procrastination lol) so instead I made less pretty non-wooden envelopes for them, if I have time I might draw some pretty xmas themed pictures on the white ones to make them less boring. Day 1. (what could it be???) we're starting it off with a bang! The classic sunflower seed :P Their reactions: (just to let you know, my photo-taking abilities are not in any way good*) Pippin first Now Merry Om nom I'd love to see other people's calendars if you've made them :)

Is tricking feeding them and photo'ing them! If you just gave them the envelope would they 'open' it?

maybe, but I used the marker pens for the numbers and I'm sure I read somewhere that those were bad for gerbils, so I don't want to take any chances, although it might have been an inhaling issue rather than a chewing issue. Plus - then you wouldn't see the treats! Maybe I'll just leave them on a bowl next time...

I didn't have any pictures for yesterday because my phone died just as I was taking them. (Day 3 was walnut pieces) Day 4. (forage)

Lovely to see them both having a nom!
What was Day 4 again - was it a pinch of dried flower mix?

I love this so much! They look so happy munching. I haven't had chance to do anything like I'd hoped. I might see if I can make some tiny envelopes tomorrow so that they can chew into it to get their treat like Mark suggested.

Day 5 (yesterday) Homemade (100%) almond butter treats with oats and a bit of flour - pippin tried really hard to take it from me lol - I held on tight so she could work a little bit harder for it (I don't know if you can see, but she was practically on her side by the end! XD) (No Merry because she was too lazy/shy to pose for the camera) Day 6 (It's a big 'un today) Remember when I said I couldn't take pictures? well, I think I just proved that XD (And that was a still object!) - they got sun choke sticks today after a fatty treat yesterday. (That's what they look like as a non-blur) again, no gerbils because they were fast asleep... (And I'm not taking photos later because the lighting is already awful) On a side note they've been busy making some pretty impressive hobbit holes...: betty - yes it was some forage, either from piggie parcels (https://www.piggieparcels.co.uk) or it was one that was given to me but I can't remember. :)

Aubiose with a mixture of lots of shredded cardboard, a bit of meadow hay and oxbow pure comfort, and shredded paper.

Ha! That was my 1st thought, but then I backed off from it . That's what I'm using atm, although I'm thinking of going back to Hempbed as that seemed to hold tunnels better, I think! (although I get less for more ££s vs Aubiose).

Day 10. (homemade raspberry and oat treats) Day 11. -dried sweetcorn (one of their absolute favourite treats :)) Day 12. goji berries (another favourite) (sorry about bad lighting) Day 13. Day 14. -dried cranberries Day 15. the handmade almond/oat treats as in day 5. Day 16. Almonds (without skin because its all I had in my cupboard!) Day 17. Apple sticks bonus picture of Pipsies crawling up my arm frantically for no reason whatsoever: Day 18. (sultanas) I don't have a "reaction" picture for that one because I'm dumb and pressed video instead of photo... oopsies Day 19. pumpkin seeds Pipsqueak ate all of them before Merry even got a whiff... Day 20. (same as day 10.) I think we should appreciate Pippin's face in this photo: (how dare she be given treats before her majesty, me!) Day 21. -walnut pieces There was an extra treat in 21 and I honestly don't know how it got in there but I gave it anyway: Pippin just could not understand what this weirdly shaped object was XD Right so we're all caught up! :)
