Hi, I'll be moving the gerbils into a tank fairly soon, for the last year they've been drinking their water from a bowl as it was convenient for me, but I'm finding it difficult to get the bowl in the tank without the chance of bedding thrown in. So, I might have to move back to using a bottle. I only wonder if the gerbils could forget how to use it? I know its a silly question but I just wondered, and I wouldn't want them to have no water just because they didn't know it was there. Is there anything I could do to encourage them to use it, figure out it was there...? Thanks x

just use both until you are sure they are using the bottle and show them with your finger how to use it-rub it when they look at you and maybe put some safe for gerbil food on the end to see if that encourages them to drink from it. My last girls had a bowl at the spca when i got them and it did take them a long time to use a bottle, so i just put the bowl on a upside larger tin, one day they just used it on their own, even though i showed them how to use it, hopefully yours will catch on quickly.

Yeah, always best to have both and watch for the bottle to start emptying. If you see them at the nozzle - wait for an air bubble to rise up in it to be sure they are getting water out of it rather than just attacking it!
Thye won't have forgotten - they just might prefer the bowl now. Most aren't too bothered though.
