Yep - you can feed the whole strawberry plant to gerbils if you have them - blossom, fruits and leaves.
However tomatoes, I don't know their toxicity as a fruit (I have always avoided them as they are so acidic and if I was to feed them it would be the flesh only - not the middle seedy bit just in case - but now I need to look up if other rodents eat tomatoes - as I am sure ginty pigs do?) - but defo no tomato blossom or leaves.

when I've fed tomatoes, I've fed it in very tiny bits, and as you say only the fleshy bit. but I've only fed them to them once!

Just want to ask because this was what the thread was originally about. I changed up my gerbil's diet a bit just after starting this thread so use a mix of gerri gerbil, nature's touch, burgess and oats and some added mealworms etc. because there isn't much protein in the other foods, is this ok and is there anything I could do to improve their diet? (or any new foods I could buy when Rolo needs a top up?)
Also was thinking about getting some rosewood treats

I didn't know they could have the whole strawberry plant. We've had loads all summer and I never thought to check.
Gerri gerbil is really high in protein. I've had to look at this for Vanilla. It has 17% protein which is definitely the higher end of gerbil foods. Natures touch has 14.7% and Burgess I think is around 14-15%. I'd imagine you'd have more than enough protein and wouldn't need to worry about it, unless it's other oils and minerals you want to make up diet wise. It sounds like you're covering all of the bases and just need to think about mixing up the treats?

Yes, I agree it sounds enough, which is good I guess on the protein side of things! Rolo's really nor fussy on her main food, but is pretty fussy on veg (loves her fruit but it isn't as healthy as veg!). Yes I'm thinking about mixing up treats a bit - but don't know how much I can give of what often! I'll buy her a variety of treats as soon as lockdown is over in England.

I use All Living Things brand hamster and gerbil food along with a mix that the pet store gave to me with my gerbils for free. I am also currently gathering the ingredients to make my own food mix. I have to get safflower, sorghum, and rye. Hopefully I will have that soon. I take the big sunflower seeds out of my mix when I give it to them or I take out most of them since they are pretty fatty.
