I didn't realise the WP gene wasn't in the US? That is very interesting indeed.
I went to your site for this thread and all your info was gone?

Nope, our gerbils that look like WP and EW have never produced RB or PW (as far as I can tell, and I'm pretty well connected at this point). I did a cross back in 2008 to try and prove it out, but unfortunately due to life circumstances at the time I wasn't able to get a large enough sample size to truly prove it. www.egerbil.com/node/954What pages are missing? I did update parts of my site last week, so I could have broken a link somewhere. ETA: there have been enough crosses within the 2018 import population to reliably rule out an unintended introduction of Sls by that route.

Here's the latest picture of those 2 babies for those interested! Baby gerbils are horrible models for the camera, this was the best I could manage. And they were extra jumpy because they are now being treated for an upper respiratory infection and hate the medication. Luckily everyone is doing much better after 48 hours of antibiotics. Thanks for popping in Shooting Star! Glad I don't have to worry about WP. I already have my hands full with this group. And on top of the respiratory stuff, my very cute 12 week old LCP Agouti appears to have epilepsy...so no making babies for him.

Ah, maybe I was mistaken Shooting Star - I thought I had read about WP and Sls on your site originally - but maybe it was never there in the first place?
Also, great update on the DPP experiments - how very fantastic to see a 'new' allele being identified and named in the gerbil world as it is acually happening!

betty No, I never had articles on Sls, since I have no experience with it. I do have articles on Steel-factor, though they're not linked to from any of the main pages. I'm working on an updated Steel-factor page that will link to the prior articles. I'm excited to be coordinating with the breeder that's put the most effort into understanding Patched, Moonstone Gerbils, using some of her stock to set up my own lines. beachbumgerbils I'm sorry to hear about the seizures, that's always frustrating! If I had a penny for every time a gorgeous gerbil wound up not being breeding-quality for one reason or another, I'd be quite a bit richer. XD

Yeah, luckily for Bojangles, his seizures are focal and mild. But that doesn't mean his offspring won't have full blown epilepsy. So a pet he shall be. The frustrating part is that I have pretty limited options in my area and was lucky to find him in a pet store. (I have actually e-mailed you about getting on the waiting list for breeding quality gerbils, Calley!). Luckily I have a whole clan to keep me occupied at the moment!
