Hiya, My unexpected babies are now 5 weeks + 5 days old. Ive added some pictures in the hopes someone could help me sex them? No names for them yet but one has a diamond shape pattern so I've labelled the photos 'diamond' and 'not diamond'. Hope someone can help me out! ((( I think 'diamond' is female and 'not diamond' is male but need to be sure )) Thank you in advance for any help/advice!!

Not much experience in this field but they both look female to me. I would take that with a grain of salt an wait for someone more experienced to reply. I only have experience with males and haven't needed to sex them young before. hope the babies are doing well!

Diamond is female. I'm about 75% sure Not-diamond is male. How are you holding "him"? It's easiest to detect males at this age if they're held head-up, tail-down, with your thumb pressing lightly on the belly (just enough that they're secure). That's the position where they're most relaxed and least likely to retract their testicles.

Curious here, you got a picture of holding a gerbil like that? I can't picture it .

- They are doing great, thank you! They have just discovered the wheel!
- Thank you! I will get another picture just like that later today!
- I had them cupped with two hands! I didn't take the picture.

How is it with the babies? are you sure of what they are now? I would love to see some pictures of them if you haven't already posted some and it isn't too much trouble, I love baby gerbils so much! It's fine if not I hope you were able to sex them in the end!

Curious here, you got a picture of holding a gerbil like that? I can't picture it . I skipped a step in the description, lol. What I described is actually a two-handed hold, with the front half of the gerbil in one hand, and the rear in the other. You can only do that hold one-handed if the pup is calm and not squirmy. The real one-handed version has the ring finger pressing gently on the abdomen instead of the thumb.

Got ya , but couldn't they just bite you like that? Your thumb looks like it's nearly in his mouth!

My gerbils are fine with being manhandled, or they don't get to make pups. So my pups might be as difficult to hold still as any pups, but I'm never worried about being bitten when I'm restraining them.

Cool , never tried restraining mine so I don't know, but Avon doesn't like to be picked up, he tries to run away immediately , Blake is warming up though, theirs been a couple of times recently that he's actually sat still for a few seconds to be stroked .

Mine don't bite but I always feel bad flipping them. It just seems stressful so I try to make it quick and be as gentle as possible
