Hey guys, stumbled across a recipe on a keto site for crackers made from only seeds, using chia as the binding agent. Adapted it a little for gerbils! Only-Seed Crackers
Ingredients:- 1/4 Cup Chia Seeds
- 3/4 Cup mixed crushed nuts, seeds, treats (I used pumpkin seeds, flaked almonds, sunflower seeds and coconut)
- 1/2 Cup Water
- Choice of topping (e.g. crushed cereal, dried fruit pieces)
Method:1. Preheat the oven to 300F/150C 2. Combine all the seeds and water on a bowl. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes as the chia seeds need to soak in the water. This creates the binding agent. 3. Spread the mixture onto a baking tray lined with baking paper. The size will depend on how thin you want the crackers, but I used a 10x20cm tray. 4. Press the mixture evenly and make sure there are no gaps at all in the seeds. You can add some toppings and press this in too. 5. Bake for 25-30 minutes. 6. Take out and cut into cracker-sized pieces then flip the crackers. 7. Bake for 30 more minutes until the crackers are dry. Cooking times will vary with thickness! You can find an image of the crackers here: imgur.com/a/xu4GUXz

Ooh - I wonder how many other keto recipes and products would be suitable for gerbils?
No-sugar food has got to have its advantages!
Thanks for sharing.
