I've heard plastic wheels are bad because they can be chewed but I saw a youtube video by munchie's place that said the niteangel acrylic wheel is a good option because it's very hard plastic so it's difficult for them to chew it. I personally own this wheel for my hamsters and i absolutely love how silent it is and how smoothly it spins, i think it's a great wheel for the hamsters but I was wondering how you guys felt about that wheel for gerbils?

Loads of people with gerbils use plastic wheels and are fine. I can't say much since I have a wooden one, but I think it should be okay unless your gerbils end up being SUPER chewers!

I have the Niteangel transparent wheel and my gerbils haven’t chewed it at all. Hard plastics are fine for gerbils but make sure to take it away if they start to chew it.

Most people only have one wheel for a pair, as they can become territorial with two of something and can result in a declan. One will do just fine

They really only need one. I have 2 gerbils and one wheel and they just take turns going on the wheel. I have the smaller wheel size because I got a large and it was massive and I returned it and got the smaller wheel which was a perfect size for my gerbils.

One will do just fine Interesting, I would have thought the opposite would be the case? If theirs 2 then they could both easily run at the same time, potentially avoiding conflicts over 1 wheel? I've not read that about 2 wheels mind you, but just thinking about how they could argue over 1 food bowl, and the way to avoid that is to have 2 bowls or (better still) scatter feed. I'd assumed that most people only have 1 because of space issues?
That said, I only have 1 wheel and they're ok with it, they usually take turns in a very gentleman like way, until the other gets impatient and then just jumps on the wheel and slams it to a halt! Oh and on the very rare occasion they both run on it in synchrony, but it's even rarer they can maintain that!

Ahh - I don't know! What you said could be right Mark, I'm not too sure. I just know that tanks with toppers can be more risky since one gerbil can 'claim' the bottom and one gerbil can 'claim' the top, so I assumed the same would happen with wheels?

Ah yea, that's if the topper has 1 small entrance which can be blocked/defended by a gerbil, if theirs one big entrance or 2, then a topper should be fine (assuming one isn't added to a clan on the verge of declanning). So I'm pretty sure that isn't be the case with 2 wheels, more likely with 1 as they could 'argue' over it.

Ok - good point there. I agree, it makes sense now! But one wheel is fine too I guess?

For mine it is as they can run on it at the same time, although they don't usually do that and take turns instead . They do occasionally argue over it, but nothing serious. AFAIK 1 wheel is fine in general for gerbils and I think what most people do, I guess for a clan on the edge it could be a tipping point? (as could anything, lol). If people have the room and money for 2 wheels for 2 gerbils then I think that's better, but you're talking 6 star gerbil hotel then

I just happened to see a Niteangel in a store (not the transparent one) but I didn't know anything about it. It popped into my head again just now and I looked it up on Amazon and the reviews were very high. But I copied the product page into Fakespot, which implied there are a LOT of suspicious reviews, bringing the rating down from five to two stars. I had the Silent Runner some time ago but tossed it because my gerbils used it as a chew toy as much as for exercise. I had a large mesh metal wheel, but after my gerbil was injured I got rid of it. I have absolutely no proof his spine injury related to the wheel (my thought was maybe a claw got caught), but the experience was traumatic enough not to want to risk it.

I got the wheel and I love it. Are you looking directly from the niteangel shop on Amazon? This is the one I got Niteangel Super-Silent Hamster... www.amazon.com/dp/B08FC8X9L4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Hmmm. The one that came up for me was this one. I didn't parse too closely, but I'm not sure the difference. Both are in the NiteAngel store. The one you linked to also has a lowered adjusted rating, meaning that there are reviews that Fakespot deems suspicious. That doesn't automatically mean the product is bad, just that the reviews might be manipulated. OTOH, ReviewMeta doesn't seem to have such suspicions. Which size did you get?
