Hi,
Unfortunately, My gerbils are having a bit of a rough patch and I need to use the split cage method. What mesh would you recommend? And what hole size is good?
Thanks, David

1 cm mesh is a good size, or 1/4 inch. I use the 1 cm mesh from Wilko, but you'll only be able to get that if you're in the UK. I'm sorry about your gerbils, I hope everything works out well.

Hmm, 1cm is nearer 1/2" mesh (12.5mm), 1/4" is about 6mm, but is 1/2" too big?

Yeah I think for a lid 1 cm is fine, but maybe for a split cage 1/4" is more appropriate.

I'll have to remember that if I ever need to make a divider.

I'm not 100% sure! It's just you don't want them to be able to sniff too much when they haven't bonded yet, so 1/4" will stop them from sticking their noses through.

I use 1cm mesh for introductions and for my lids. Intro dividers get two layers somewhat overlapped.

Yep - you can usually buy sheets or rolls of 1cm aviary wire from hardware stores.
