Sometimes? Erm... Perhaps I will leave this to someone with fresh brain cells tomorrow?
So, we have a non-electrical static object usually found in a kitchen, that food or drink is placed on (rather than in) - but that isn't a plate.
It is between the size of an orange and a watermelon; is sometimes made of plastic; and is also sometimes used for preparing food or drink.
We have just 4 questions left people - any ideas?
I assume we can rule out chopping board and weighing scales (always for preparing food/drink) or tea trays, platters or placemats (never for preparing food/drink). And it can't be anything that goes directly on the hob or in the oven (although can some special plastics be used in ovens?)

Ok, I'm going to add a new rule. You can ask for one hint per round, but only one, and it counts as one of your questions.

Although it is found in the kitchen, it is also found in another room which is usually adjacent to the kitchen.

I don't think that helped me anyway?
Erm - noone else is joining in so here goes:
Does it have a handle?

Would you use more than one in the house (as opposed to having a spare somewhere)?

Ok - I still have no idea - but last question:
Can I have 5 more questions?
