I have the Niteangel wheel in both the small (8.2"), for a 20g tank, and the medium (10") for a 40 (as of yet, unpopulated). Had I the room in the 20 I'd have gone for the medium, but the 8.2" seems to be just fine and hits the minimum size. I had a Silent Runner but the gerbils chewed the heck out of it; so far, no marks on the Niteangel. I also had a metal mesh wheel, but I can't rule out that one gerbil might have been badly injured by one of the wheel's support bars.

I have the small size in my topper and it is the best. My gerbils are on the smaller side when it comes to size in my opinion with one weighing 60 grams and the other 70. The wheel isn't too small for them and their backs have never curbed. If you are using it in a topper it is possible to hook on to bars but can be louder and not as sturdy so I prefer to use the stand. I definitely recommend that you get it.

To add to my earlier statement: the Niteangel is by far the quietest wheel I've owned. While other wheels have spun decently quietly, additional noise comes from the base rattling against the tank bottom. The Niteangel comes with a stick-on cork cover for the base, and it's so quiet I can't tell when it's being used.

The small is adequate for gerbils but the medium would be preferable--the former fits fine in my 20g long, but the 40g engulfs the medium, which would crowd the 20. Both use the exact same base so the only fit difference is wheel diameter. I'm not sure about the large--they recommend it for hedgehogs and Syrian hamsters, both of which are bigger than gerbils. If you have the room in your, the only possible reason I can think of not to get a large is perhaps, due to its mass, it might be harder to start and stop running, but I hadn't read any such thing in the reviews. Be sure you have the vertical clearance as well.

If it will fit comfortably in the tank, I would definitely go for the 11".
To be honest, I've found an 8-8.5" wheel too cramped for my gerbils. My only gerbil who looks remotely comfortable on it is Rocket who is a small gerbil with only three quarters of a tail.
Gerbils run on wheels in a kind of leaping motion and I think the more space they have to do that, the more comfortable it is and possibly the more likely they are to use it in the first place.

brie I was going to suggest another option is the solid metal (aluminium) wheels by tictac, but I believe you're in the US? Tictac are UK based, and although apparently they do ship aboard now, their wheels aren't cheap (they are well made though) and I would think international shipping could make it eye wateringly expensive!
I got the 10" version, I do wonder if I should've gone bigger as Avon runs on the edge and sticks his nose out, but maybe that's just so he can see where he's going? Oh, and the tictac wheels do really need cork lining for gerbils, so they can get decent grip.

Although mine sits on a wooden platform, it has the same problem sometimes (usually only when Blake is going flat out, lol), and I was thinking of sticking cork on it, I ought to do that!

My wheel is a 12” and they don’t have any problem moving it. Of course, only shark runs. Chicken will sit on it and eat seeds....
