I have a single gerbil and have had him for quite a while now, he lets me pet him and goes on my hand. But when he jumps on my hand, every time he wags his tail, I've read tail wagging is a sign of aggression in gerbils. He usually warns me when he is going to bite by rubbing his teeth on me when he sniffs my hand, but he only bites by accident (like if I forgot to wash some Brazil nut off) Is this a concern? He's been doing it basically since I got him.

They also wag their tails or move them in a windmilling motion when they feel unbalanced or not secure. If he does it when you move your hand, that could be it. You could try putting your other hand over his back if you hold him when moving so he feels safer.
Aggression might still be possible but it seems strange for him to jump onto your hand voluntarily if he feels afraid or aggressive.

Sorry for late reply, I've been busy!
I forgot to say. When he jumps on my hand, he would immediatly lie down instead of standing or hunching so I don't think balance is an issue.
