For anyone that has cork logs do your gerbils chew them? I want to get a cork log for my gerbils but am worried that they might chew it. They basically try to chew anything possible. Are cork logs even that easy to chew?

Cork is super easy to chew and they can be turned to dust over just a few nights if they set their mind to it - but sometimes they take ages before they do.
It looks great though - and if you can find it at a super low price - it still makes a great treat for them.
I have had a few last longer than I thought - they aren't attacked straight off like a hay cube usually, and they only seem to chew the bit in the way like with everything, so often it just gets smaller as and when they see fit.
Depends on your set up - but I found the ones I balanced on perches up in the air seemed to last the longest?

Yea my boys chew them, but they don't lay into it in one go, the 1st one lasted a few months. The 2nd one is currently buried and I don't know what's left of it!

My girls have a cork log currently and have chewed it but it's still pretty much the same, and it's been about a month and a half. I have another one for when they finish this one but I definitely recommend you getting one/some!

Oh yeah mine have all chewed on the cork logs, but the logs have still managed to (in the case of one just barely) survive 3 generations so far. Whole cork bark is pretty hardy and as far as im concerned, as long as they're destroying things, I don't need to worry their teeth are getting too long! A 6€ log is much cheaper than a 50€ visit to the vet to have their teeth clipped.😅

Very true I changed my boys bedding a few days ago, the cork log has survived, although it's been opened up one side along nearly the entire length! lol. I bought this log on the 26/11/20 JFYI.

Aspiring professional gerbil friend, getting there. My hair is delicious as a snack (apparently).

I love cork logs! My boys absolutely adore them too. They use them as a hiding spot, sometimes they use it as a nest, they like to stand on top of them and stare at us like they own the place (they do ofc).
They also chew it sometimes. One of my gerbils will occasionally go on a cork-chewing rampage, but he usually only chews a bit off and then stops. It lasts a long time, and I just reuse it whenever I change their bedding. They never get it dirty, so I just put it back in their tank.
I also like cork flats. I lean them against the glass to make a little cave or use them as a bridge. It's good if they chew it. It helps them keep their teeth healthy. Also, I always worry about wood splinters when I use wooden toys, but with cork, I have nothing to worry about.
