Hi everyone, I am curious what certain young pups look like in certain colors. I have a 3 day old so far pied grey, and does anyone have an idea on what she will look like? She has black eyes. I’m thinking perhaps pied Burmese (her dad is Burmese) or pied agouti? I would post a pic, but I can’t figure that out no matter how many times people explain it

There used to be a website somewhere that had images of all the colour pups at 4 different ages - hang on.... Here it is...

Also, I just went back on your comments about genetics - and your pups absolutely can't be agouti - so you can cross that one off for sure.
It wasn't even on my list of possible colours because it is impossible to produce an agouti from a Nutmeg and Burmese pairing.
Burmese is definitely a possibility though.

Why is agouti not an option?

You don't have the Agouti gene?
You have two self gerbils so you can only have self babies - this is why I only listed the possible pups colours on the self side when you asked what colours were most likely.
There are lots of other colours you can't get either from your pairing - which is why I thought you were asking what you could get?

Yeah, it’s hard to know for sure I bet because we don’t know that far back into my gerbil’s history.

Going back in time down the family can always help add other potential colours to the 'might be' list - but if certain genes aren't present in the parents - they can't be passed on.
So even if your gerbils actually did have 5 known agouti relatives in the past - it has stopped with your mom and dad. It has been removed from this family going forward - so no agouti pups.
Some genes can hide for generations - others are gone in a flash.
