Half of my gerbils face is swollen and his eye is red. I thought it was and eye infection and it would go away, but it’s been almost a week and it hasn’t gotten any better. His eye is red and crusty and the entire right side of his face is swollen. What should I do?

I know nothing about this but if I were you I would bring him to an exotic pet vet that will look at gerbils. This doesn’t sound good and since it hasn’t gotten better in a week a vet is probably your best bet.

I agree, a vet visit would be best. If his face is swollen then it could be a tooth problem. Since his eye is also swollen then it could be something else.

Could be a number of things depending on the exact location of the swelling, and the shape and feel of it.
If it is warm to touch, rounded and/or softish, it could be an injury or infection (either topically or deep within the head/eye or mouth); if it is cool but hard or lumpy if could be a growth.
If he is pawing at it or overgrooming his mouth and face, it could be that it is very uncomfortable and he needs pain relief.
Are there any other symptoms or behaviours you are noticing - like losing weight, sleeping differently, drooling, stretching or something he keeps repeating?
