Hi there, i’m back! As some of you know, I have my two girls, Tokyo and Brownie. They live in a cage 60x40x35 centimeters (quite small, i think). My question is, is it better an aquarium or a wood cage? I’m afraid they would chew the wood and get out. I found an aquarium which is 80x35x40 cm (31”x14”x16”), should it be larger than that?

Wood cages can be fine but it depends on how they are designed. If the sides are completely smooth with no exposed edges that can be chewed, the risk of them chewing out is very low. If there are bits of wood sticking out where they could start chewing, that might be an issue. You could post a link to the cage so we can give our thoughts.
80x35x40cm is an ok size and it would certainly be a very nice upgrade from their current cage. I think they would love the extra space! Aquariums also allow for much more burrowing than a barred cage which will benefit them greatly.

The other problem with some wooden cages is if they aren't veneered and the gerbils (etc) wee on it, the wee will soak in and make it very hard to clean properly, causing it to be smelly.
The 80cm cage is a nice upgrade over the 60cm, but if you have the space and can afford a bigger cage (in all dimensions), bigger would be better.

Thank you both. I think I made a decision. I’ll create by myself an aquarium 100x40x50 centimeters (39”x16”x20”). I really should make a lid case, right? Just to be sure they will not jump off:))

I definitely recommend a lid. Gerbils are good jumpers, mine can jump about a foot.
Also, with a lid you can give more bedding. And you're not risking as escape if the end up piling it up high in the corner.

I definitely would put a lid on top. When I change my gerbils tank I take them out and put them in a Home Depot bucket with a little bit of bedding while I spray the glass down and I put their topper on one day and they managed to hop into the topper which is about a foot and a half.
