I think all the blood can make it look worse than it is. Since they're no longer limping, I'd just keep an eye on them for a few days.
It's sad that they'll have to be permanently apart now but I expect they'll both be more relaxed now.

Yea I guess so, they both seem to be acting normally , although some of Avon's fur still looks somewhat dishevelled. And it is sad they'll be permanently split, but there's no choice in the matter now. In the short to medium term I'll just keep them split in the same cage (neither of them seem anxious or scared of the other, regular nose touching and the occasional following the other along the divider). First thing I need to do is build another platform so I have somewhere to put another wheel (annoyingly I can't order another tictac wheel until the 18th as they are on holiday, bad timing! lol), and I'll also need to build another raised roof for the left side and the new wheel (going for 12" this time, which will be Avon's). Then I'll have to decide whether I'll leave them in the split tank permanently (have you (or anyone) ever done that with de-clanned gerbils?), although I'm not keen on how little running and digging room they have now. Would a permanent split satisfy their social needs anyway? And a bigger single tank is just not practical, even if I could build one for sensible money. If I put them into separate tanks, then I'd have to look and getting them each new cage mates, not to mention the extra tank and trying to clear space to put it somewhere! A multiplication of everything I'm not keen on! Arrggghh!

I've missed a lot - I'm really sorry to hear about the declan Mark, and that Avon and Blake were hurt That's definitely stressful, but good to hear they're recovering.

I'm so sorry to hear of this, Mark. I really was so pleased that you'd got them back together again so this is very sad. You know that you gave them their best shot. It sounds as though the split is working ok for them currently so at least you don't have to organise anything for a while if it is even necessary to. I've definitely read of others leaving them in a permanent split tank. Hopefully someone with some experience can offer advice with this. Have Avon and Blakes wounds healed ok now?

Yea I believe so, I could never see them in the 1st place though, Blake stopped limping the day after the fight. Avon's fur still looks somewhat ruffled, but otherwise they're ok . I changed my mind on getting a bigger tank, and I'm hoping to pick up a 7ft tank this weekend! (for a permanent split).
