There is a breeder called Precious Gerbils in Ontario I believe - but it's a pretty big place so they could be at the other end!
However, thanks fully everyone on here has gerbils - so you are in good company even if we live miles away!
Good luck in your search for someone more local though!

Don’t know anyone in Ontario. I’m in Saskatchewan though.
that’s a great cage you have and your gerbils are so cute. Do they ever chew the plastic tube in the cage?

Thanks for the replys guys! For your question yeti218 my gerbils have tried chewing the blue part of the tube in the burowing area. But it is made out of rubber so it dosent seem to be something that will chew up in 5 minutes. And the actual tube part is made out of plastic. Plus they do not have acsess to that part to chew on. Although i do wish there was a tube color that was a bit more natrual to sute the cage better. Do you know where i could possibly get them? I saw some on amazon.ca but they did'nt have much. Are gerbils very popular in Saskatchewan? And i know this has nothing to do with what are currently talking about, but at my cottage there are some hay bails, does anyone know if i could take of some hay and give it to them? Both of your gerbils in your avatars look very cute Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to the forum they're such beautiful gerbils! And that's a really nice cage, I have an Ikea Detolf too for my gerbils (Pippa and Mali). As for tubes, I'm not sure sorry If you need a bendable tubes I can't help, but if it's just a straight tube you could use a wooden tunnel? Alot of us are in the UK as well as Canada and the US, I'm not sure of anyone who is near you, but as betty said we all have and love gerbils so you can talk about them whenever you want here!

Nice big cage! And cute gerbils I'd be tempted to increase the deep digging area though to at least 1/2 the cage (maybe 3/4), they could make some decent burrows then So where does that plastic tube go to? Nice lids for the detolf btw, where did you get them from? Or who made them?

I agree with Mark, I use 3/4 of the detolf whereas I started out at just over 1/4, they've made some pretty cool tunnels since!

Hi Megan, welcome to the forum!
Shadow and Nugget look adorable and your setup looks great-the toppers are amazing. Your little girls are very lucky to have such a great home. Even though we aren't all in Canada we are always happy to chat and solve gerbil issues together, or talk about set ups, food and enrichment options etc. so we're glad to have you with us.
There aren't any natural bendy tunnels that I have seen, but as Thea mentioned wooden logs are great. You can get wooden bendy bridges that you can suspend and shape to anything, or you can get grapevine branches or java wood that would enable your gerbils to climb, or even cork logs as some of them can be large and have multiple tunnels branching off.
With regards to the hay, most of us give gerbils timothy hay. I'd imagine it would be ok, but hopefully someone will be able to answer that definitively for you. They love chewing on it for their teeth and also use it as a substrate, so it can be put in with their bedding as it helps strengthen their tunnels. I usually put some in each day with some flowers and they dive for it straight away. It would need to be frozen first to make sure there aren't any mites alive when you put it in with the gerbils. I usually leave anything like that in the freezer for 3-4 days and then bring it back up to room temperature before giving it to them.

Both of your gerbils in your avatars look very cute Thanks! Gerbils are probably about as popular in saskatchewan as they are anywhere else in canada. There is one breeder I know of in Alberta though. Yeah I'd keep an eye on how much they're chewing the tube, and remove it if they chew it too much. I dont know of any modular tubes that are natural looking, but I do get these straight tubes covered in hay which the gerbils like to chew. www.petsmart.ca/small-pet/toys-and-habitat-accessories/tunnels-and-hideouts/all-living-things-alfalfa-covered-tunnel-hideout-small-animal-furniture-22848.html?cgid=600122

Hello and welcome, I'm from the southern tip of Ontario myself. Lovely cage, I'd fill up at about 3/4 of the cage up with more bedding to dig through. Yay for Ontario \o/

Oh my gosh! So many replies! I cant believe it:)
For your suggestion Mark, i will think about adding a bigger digging area. And the plastic tubes go from the main area to the burrowing area where they make tunnels. The cage lid (ikea detolf) is wood cut in to pieces then screwed together. Plus to secure it more we adding white glue in addition to the screws. Next we painted it black to make it match the end of the cage. After that me and my dad added i think it was 1 cm mesh to the lid. Then on the ends of one piece of the lid i added hinges. I repeated this 2 time because i made 2 lids to access each part. (me and my dad made the cage)
And for you Tanzanyte i have considered using coark logs but i don't really know where to get then in canada. Im am currently using timothy hay but it is quite expensive but i think its a really great idea to freeze it to get all the germs gone. Also there are alot of grape vines at my cottage that i could possibly use for them but i heard that grapes are poisonous to gerbils. Is this true i wonder?
Plus to what Yeti218 thank you for the breeding information but that is a bit to fare away for me. Although i will be sure to the look at the hay coverd tube a bit more.
And finally for willowfae I CANT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY A GERBIL OWNER NOT TO FAR AWAY FROM ME! Is your name willow or is that just a fun username?
Anyways thanks guys! Megan

Nope, access denied again, I wonder if it's because of the ad-blocker? Although usually if it's that, the website will tell me so.
