Helloo! I have recently going through yet another phase of wanting to spend more money on my gerbils and buy them a ton of new things. One thing I came across was Zoomed eco earth coconut fiber substrate. I saw it on a Victoria Raechel (hamster owner/youtuber) video and was wondering if it can be used for gerbils as well. I'm thinking of getting a little container and filling it with the dirt for each of my gerbils. Right now, I have aspen shavings, carefresh paper bedding, botanical hay, and sand in their cages but if you have any other ideas on substrates to add, let me know.

Im going to use coconut fiber in my gerbils cage but i havent found a container to put it in yet. I think its just like soil except it doesn't get as dirty as real dirt.

I haven’t used that stuff, but I did use another brand of coconut soil to grow gerbil safe plants in and let them rummage around in it.
I also tried to give my gerbils corn cob bedding, but they wanted to eat it so I took it out.

I used flax, cat grass (oats?), chia and millet. I just let them have access to it during supervised play time. I plan to make another but just haven’t gotten around to it. Here’s the thread about it if you’re interested. gerbilforum.proboards.com/thread/34848/gerbil-garden

I use hemp bedding (Ecoshiv atm, UK only), it used to be harder to get hold of in the US, but not sure that's still the case. Anyway, I found that Hempbed (made in Canada IIRC) and Ecoshiv smell nice, and the latter holds tunnels quite well by itself, the former needs a little help with hay and cardboard.
There's a few threads about hemp bedding in this forum if you want to know more (I was going to post a link, but I can't find the thread atm).
