I am thinking about free roaming my gerbils in my bedroom. I do have a large gap between my bed and the floor, I can fit underneath but would like to prevent my gerbils from going underneath it so how should I block this off. I don't want to spend too much money on blocking this, maybe less than $10 or $15? I also have carpeting on my floor, this won't be a problem will it? Any other advice would be appreciated, this is my first time free roaming.

I wouldn't let them roam straight on the carpet, it wouldn't be pleasant if they wee'd on it! Not to mention they could chew it etc. Cover it with old towels or blankets?
As for the gap under the bed, block it off with sturdy cardboard (if you'll be nearly constantly watching them) or plywood? (although plywood isn't suitable for cages, it would be ok for an open temporary environment I think).

I free roam gerbils on carpet and none have ever weed on it. If they do, it's not the end of the world since it's such a small amount. You can sponge it out with soapy water. If I put a sand bath out, they usually use that, or if not they use a raised flat surface like a platform (same as in the tank). They also only chew the carpet if they think it's in the way, for example if they want to get under a door. I always supervise them to stop that happening. If you have some large blankets or sheets you could cover the carpet to be sure though (especially if your parents are worried about it).

I use a painter's drop cloth to cover the carpet in the area I free roam my gerbils.
They're not as well behaved as lily and daisy. They definitely pee on it (but its such a small amount it doesn't soak through to the carpet) and I'm sure they would chew carpet if given the chance.
