Ok some more advice needed please. Misty is still not 100% she sleeps a lot now in between being very active (like sheβs really worn herself out. We noticed she was licking the glass walls of her tank and then the arms of our sofa when she was out running about. We gave her a mineral block which she is loving!!! She is nibbling it though and now her poops are a white colour. Should I remove the block? Should I be concerned?

i think i would remove the mineral block- if she is licking the glass that could be she is thirsty- do you see her using her water bottle? how is her breathing? give her a bowl to drink from and maybe the odd cucumber or apple piece(s), just not too much as she could get diarrhea, for more moisture. if she tires more, it could be due to her having had pneumonia and she may never have the energy she had before. If it doubt, take her back to the vets to see what they say.

I removed the mineral block and added some cucumber which she will nibble if hand fed. I noticed this morning that as she was moving around the bottom of her tank she suddenly started to drag her back left leg as if it were paralysed. After a bit of rest she seemed to be back to normal movements. However she has been sleeping A LOT and Iβve noticed that in her house she more often than not will sleep on her side which she never used to do. Is it likely that sheβs had a stroke? Poor little thing - she really has been through it the last few weeks π’

sorry to hear about Misty and now she has a leg issue, i would get her checked by a vet esp. if she doesn't improve or gets worse. Take care.

Sadly Misty passed away earlier today π’ feel absolutely gutted as we only adopted her five months ago. Itβs so heartbreaking β€οΈβπ©Ή

soo sorry she passed and you didn't have her for long- RIP Misty. I lost my Theo two months ago, while it gets easier as time passes, i still miss seeing his little face greeting me. I had a couple rescues i only have for a short time so time does seem it went by too fast with your new friend.Just give yourself time, take great care.

I'm so sorry. It sounds like you did everything you could have done. It's so hard when they seem to rally round and you think they are on the mend. I'm glad she had those 5 months with you in her forever home.

About upper respiratory or pneumonia in gerbils--I had a vet who would prescribe Baytril (Enrofloxacin) and if my gerbil did not respond, he just told me to use it for another week. I lost 2 gerbils to pneumonia that way. My NEW vet offered me expensive testing (which I couldn't do), but then prescribed Baytril and Metacam (Meloxicam) and my gerbil did not respond in 5 days; she switched us to Azithromycin, but after 5 days, my gerbil did not respond. Finally, she prescribed Doxycycline (which had to be compounded at a local pharmacy) and Prednisone. It's been 5 days and my little gerbil is finally, slowly starting to recover. I guess I'm trying to say that if you have an inexperienced "pocket pet" vet, push them to give you more options. Don't settle for the first option as you may, like me, end up grieving the loss of your pet.

Thanks for advice regarding this dubliners099 . It's definitely good to know there are more options. Some vets are open to suggestions for further treatment when they have tried the go to meds, especially when they aren't very au fait with gerbil care.
