So I was thinking of not using my tank topper for my new 55 gallon tank. What are some other ways I can prevent them from getting bedding in their sand bath and wheel and from burying them? I was thinking of making a divider but I don’t really have anything to make it with except cardboard. Any suggestions?

A lot of people use bendy bridges (I'm sure you know to stuff moss or something between any gaps).
Could also try a gerbil safe wood, a lot of hardware stores will make cuts for you if you don't have tools at home.
You could also try cardboard just to see how it works for you & the gerbils and then consider a more solid material if it works.

Bearing in mind you'll loose digging area doing it that way, but anyway, this is what I did originally (I never used the bottle in that position in the end btw). I kept the bendy bridge as a divider for about a month, before I ditched it, put in a platform I made and raised the roof about 6". Btw, I found out much later on that if you use a bendy bridge as a divider, you need to fill in the gaps at the top (with say aquarium Silicone sealant) to avoid the risk of them trapping their limbs in it (not that it happened to my boys in that short time, but it has to other rodents).

Thanks, my bendy bridge isn’t tall enough or wide enough for a divider. I have the largest size but it still doesn’t fit. I ended up not using cardboard because it was just going to fall over so I made a mini divider about 1.5 inches tall to just push the bedding so it didn’t get into the sand bath and wheel but after about an hour it was completely covered in bedding. I took the sand bath out and put the wheel on a bendy bridge because I have a buried large bendy bridge they use as a hide under their bedding so the smaller bendy bridge has something to keep it from sinking. They still buried the wheel since they piled their bedding up on that side but today I am going to be making a platform (the ones on Amazon won’t be here till November 20,) and I will be putting the sand bath on stilts so hopefully that solves the problem.

I think the big bendy bridge I bought was intended for Guinea pigs. Anyway, a platform will sort out your problems , as long as it's tall enough .

I just made the platforms. I ended up making 2, one for the wheel which had to have shorter stilts so it didn’t hit the lid and another one that’s higher than the bedding so no bedding at all gets into it. I think they are perfect and both of them cost less than buying one from Niteangel!

I am having a issue. I just added more bedding to one side and used cardboard as divider.(this is all I had). I watched them use the bridge to go to the other side but one keeps digging at the glass on one’s side. Why is she doing this? Any suggestions on the set up?

My gerbils sometimes dig at the glass, they do it both above the bedding and below. I think they are just trying to extend their burrows and they don't realize that there is glass in they way since it is clear. I am pretty sure that this is normal and there is nothing to worry about but we can wait for more members to respond.

I think they just don't realise that it's glass, and so they just keep digging
