So when I put my platforms into my gerbils topper they started chewing the plastic rim, last night I removed what they hasn’t chewed but now they have started doing something new. They stand up and climb their mesh lid. I don’t know what else to call it but I finally fixed one problem and created another. Is this a sign of anything and how can I stop this? Will I just have to make the platform shorter? Here’s a video of one of them doing this, usually they only do it when the rooms dark so the quality isn’t great but I managed to get a video even when my flash was on. youtube.com/shorts/q5LdHmZhxt8?feature=share

Hmm, yea sometimes my boys chew the meshed lid when they kick bedding around, bringing it in to reach. I think you will have to shorten the platform, unless you can make a raised roof? Like this, right hand side :-

I think he's just investigating the lid, seeing if it's possible to get out. They might stop after a couple of weeks but if not you might have to lower the platform.

I cut the platforms today but it went horribly wrong. I don’t have any wood tools but my dad helped me cut the wheel platform with a hand saw a few days ago so I just used the same tool for this one. It was all uneven and the dowels were loose from using an old drill, the legs were crooked, and from my awful sawing. I messaged my friend about it and said that the little saw was for drywall not wood, so now it’s at her house and hopefully I will get it back tomorrow all fixed up. I definitely have no experience with wood at all and you can tell with the platforms, hopefully this fixes all the issues I have had with my gerbils. They’ll be fine for a few days while I am on vacation without a sand bath if I can’t get it back tomorrow.

I tend to just eyeball some things, and when it comes to woodworking, my projects sometimes come out uneven! Usually I just make my dad do the wood measuring and cutting for me. I hope your friend can fix your platform, but honestly your gerbils won’t mind a wonky platform!

Her dad fixed it for me and now it’s perfect. I haven’t free roamed them in a few days and they seem to be fine. I had been hanging their coconut hide with a thick bendable metal wire and they got the idea of chewing it so I just took it out. I can’t use any string because they chew it in 5 seconds.
