Yesterday I was cleaning out my hamster Bumble Bean's cage, when I heard Scooby thumping. I finally turned around to see what his problem was. It was Bean, rolling around the room in his ball. Good to know I'll have plenty of warning if we're ever invaded by hamsters.

Lily and Daisy don't like it when any other animals are on the floor either, especially other gerbils! They actually sit and watch them from the topper. I can see by the way they tilt their heads that they're tracking them. Gerbils can see further than we think. This is Lily watching from the topper:

Lol, she's look very steely! Blake was watching me and a friend of mine as we were chatting, it seems their longish range vision is decent, but I think they're short range vision is very poor! (unless it's right in front of their face). At least with my boys.

I think that makes sense since they don't really need close vision but distance vision is useful for spotting predators.

I can never remember what long and short sighted mean , but yea that sounds right. I've seen Blake just 6-9" away from Avon, when Blake was in the Rotastak, and Avon freaked because he could hear another animal outside of the main cage, but he couldn't see him! I've also noticed that my boys sometimes react to my telly (usually when it goes from light to dark instantly) or my PC, e.g if I scroll quickly, these are the other side of them room to them.

Long sighted is when you have normal distance vision but trouble with close vision. Short sighted is the opposite.
They can definitely detect sudden changes in light from quite far away.

Ah ok, long sighted is what I've become over the past couple of years, especially this year, I've run out of arm length to read things! lol

Nice! I've winked at Scooby, but he's never winked back.

Lilyanddaisy you've both got good vision! Blake occasiionally winks back at me, but I'm never sure if it's just coincidence.
