I commented this on gerbil reddit too and got a lot of great advice but as many opinions as I can get would be wonderful! I have an 8 month old gerbil who is alone (previously bullied by other gerbs) but is very lonely 🥺 I want to introduce her to a friend by spilt cage. I read that babies are the best way to go. But I could never spilt up a pair.... at my local pet store there is a pair of gerbils that look to be about 2 and a half months... could I spilt tank and introduce my adult gerbil to two babies? Or should I wait till I come across a single baby I know introducing groups is bad but I’d they are babies who haven’t established a hierarchy yet.... I’m just not sure so wanted to ask Reddit 😊 thank you for your time! And she is in a 40 gallon with a topper right now all alone with tons of bedding and toys 💕 Another thing: my adult gerbil is very submissive to other gerbils, would baby gerbils take advantage of this? 💕 I just want what’s best for her

Hmm, I've often seen it said by the folks here who have the experience with intro'ing gerbils that the quick 'pup' intro should be done by the time they're 8-9 weeks old, as after that they do begin to establish a hierarchy. Although if they are over that age, then you would just need to do a longer intro.
Anyway, that aside, you do have a bit of a dilemma, whether to wait for a single gerbil pup for an easier intro and thus having just a pair for a better chance of avoiding a declan down the road, or intro the pair of pups to an adult with a higher chance of a declann in the future, which with a trio of females is even more likely.
But how about a 3rd option? How about adopting an adult gerbil to split intro with your current gerbil?
PS I'm going to move your thread to the 'behaviour and introducing gerbils' section (might get more replies as a result).
