OK, I know this is really subjective but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing. I have had multiple gerbils in many colours. But I swear the two grey agouti's I've had both had really soft fur. My whole family says the same. I didnt think much of it but I was recently talking to another gerbil owner who said the same thing. She described it as chinchilla like fur (as in the texture, not the colour, although it was also grey). Has anyone else had super soft gerbils, especially greys?

No I haven 't - but I love the sound of it!!! It would be Shooting Star who was best to ask as they are always in the know on things like this - and I was thinking is there a coat type in rats or hamsters that makes the coat feel softer (but not thinner) - I'll have to look that up... Interesting

I get a cheese and onion one, and a salt and vinegar one, and I eat them in the same go

I used to have a grey gerbil called Dumbledore but I can't really remember what his fur felt like because I was eight and I didn't really think about it. I think it was very soft, though.

I really think it depends on the health of the gerbil and their use of a sand bath. I have a black gerbil which is very fluffy and soft, my two greys seem soft (like most gerbils fur) but not especially soft. It could just be the grey gerbils in your area? Maybe they all come from a similar source or the climate affects them. Interesting anyway.
