If this question has already been asked than somebody may request its removal. I was curious because I see conflicting sources about whether the second pregnancy period is elongated. Thelodar told me to expect the second litter after the first litter was weaned (4 or 5 weeks), but the pups came on week 3 day 4. I don't know if it was an anomaly or not, especially because it seems like the mom's maternal instincts shut off towards her first litter pup. I would like to see how common it is for an early pregnancy, or how late a pregnancy can be prolonged for (especially because I wasn't prepared to remove the male and I didn't separate them til morning .) Would anybody who has had two consecutive litters please participate in the poll (for breeders I guess enter the average?)

It is usually around the 4 week mark as an average - because once they are weanedweanable (around 3 weeks) the mums hormones change and focus on the new litter - and it is this that changes her attitude - both physically and biologically.
As for second litters - I have had them range anywhere from just under 4 weeks up to 6 weeks - but I was sure one time I had some at 62 days - however, I never knew if that was the original second litter - or whether they lost the original second litter and went to work on the third instead?

My first litter was Dec 17 and second was Jan 24. So just over 5 weeks.
The second litter will come sooner if there are fewer pups. With just two in your first, that is likely why they came earlier.
