I just used to weigh the lid down with something heavy. I’ve found some latches that look like they should fit. The girls are doing well and no signs of any issues so I’m hoping to move them to the PawHut this weekend

I'm still puzzled, lol, can you post a link to one?
Btw I've only just spotted your picture with 4 gerbils on one wheel, priceless!

Btw I've only just spotted your picture with 4 gerbils on one wheel, priceless! I absolutely love them and they get on so well, it’s fascinating, but I’m very prepared in case things do go south. I’ve attached a pic of turn buttons but I’ve ordered something else now given the lid lifts up and not how I thought, ha

Oh I see, a turn latch, not really a button (I was thinking that's a US name, but I see you're in the UK), anyway, looking forwards to seeing the finished project!

The strange thing is that’s their official name so when I was searching, I couldn’t find what I wanted until I used turn button and then results galore! It makes no sense to me as they’re definitely not buttons, lol! I’ve got the box hasp latch things to come and install for the lid and I found a bargain for less than £6 on Amazon consisting of a platform, ladder and swing toy thing all in one so going to fix that in also

So just waiting on the latches to come and the girls will be moving in. The girls have a solid bond with no squabbles or anything like that exhibited, do you think I’d be safe enough to keep them together now and just see how it goes once they move?

Sorry, my memory's rubbish and I can't re-read right through the thread atm, can you summarise the split setup, time and age of gerbils?

Sorry, my memory's rubbish and I can't re-read right through the thread atm, can you summarise the split setup, time and age of gerbils? They’ve never been split and they are now in the PawHut (day 2) and they have settled in well, still doing everything together but I’ve kept to a bare minimum and I’ve also ordered a second wheel for them but that hasn’t arrived yet and will go in when I am happy there’s no adverse behaviour. So there were 2 sisters (not even a year yet I believe) and they got pregnant and gave birth in April, so a daughter from each of them was kept and they have been a quad since April. Their bond is solid, I know this can change, but they do everything together

Am I best off keeping the Savic xl as a spare cage or the 20 gallon tank they were in? I don’t have much space to keep both but could if it would be recommended given you never know what will happen

Hmm, tricky, well from the point of view of gerbil space, should you have to split them, the Savic would be better. But that might not be ideal for you if you're crammed up in your room! lol
