What is the best storage box to convert? I’m thinking the 145l Really Useful Box but they are almost £50.
I’ve seen the Kaze 138l and Wham 133l but would be concerned about the plastic pillars getting chewed. Would the plastic be thick enough not to cause issues or is it likely to be an issue?
Does anyone know of any other boxes like the RUB’s that are smooth inside?

The RUBs are great internally - however there is a rim lip on the inside that can easily become gnawed down and as it is an inverted lip it could potentially lead to a hole if over-chewed.
Also with the RUBs - the larger you go - the more of a gap there is in the lid fitting. I hadn't thought it was an issue before with bigger critters - until I transported harvestmice in one and had one try to u-bend out while i was driving!!!
There is a guy on FB (who attends exotic shows) who gets RUB seconds at a silly fraction of the cost - so if you were looking to use a large RUB as a base for an enclosure - it might be worth hunting around to see if you had a seconds seller near you (this one is in the East Midlands).

Thank you. Would you recommend something else over a RUB?

I have gone for a 138l Kaze and will put the Savic xl cage part on as a topper as it was half the price over the RUB and people apparently use them without issue

Can't wait to hear all about the Kaze then - and any top tips. Especially if they are way cheaper...

Ok so the kaze is now done with a few bits still to arrive for the topper but for now the kaze is being used as is. The wire platforms and ladders will go as soon as my parcels that I ordered ages ago arrive. I wouldn’t bother with the lid as cutting it with anything was a nightmare so it ended up very badly cracked and in the bin! I’ve fashioned my own lid using wooden batons and mesh and pleased how it’s turned out given it’s very much homemade and rustic!! Compared to the 22 gallon glass tank:

Good improvising! , just watch the cable ties, some of those might get chewed, lol. What's holding the topper in place? Just it's weight?

I’ve got a few tweaks to make and more acrylic sheets that will sit over the inner mesh and wooden batons but I am waiting on several long bridges to arrive. It’s a real shame that the kaze lid is so rubbish but I would estimate the price of the box with mesh and wood set me back maybe £35 or so with wood and mesh to spare

The kaze 138l is currently 15% off in B&Q making it a bargain £14.45, don’t bother with the lid and fashion your own cos the lid just cracks badly

Missed this earlier - thanks for the update.
You found the same as others with the tinkering around with the lid. I have had a few crack myself, and often the teeny bigs of frame around the top of the tank and the bottom of the topper can be really fiddly.
But great price still for the larger base - and £35 for a new and bigger enclosure isn't to be sniffed at these days.
