I have a random question, what age is best to breed female gerbils? With males does it matter how old they are, past sexual maturity I mean? For example, would it be fine to breed a female who has just reached sexual maturity with a male who is about 2 years old? I have been thinking about doing this at some point but I thought I’d better make sure first that it would be fine. Thanks

Gerbilwelfare.com recommends between 3-18 months old for both parents. I would imagine, that like people, when the father gets old the chances of problems with the baby(ies) increases (as well as with the mother).

Would it likely be fine to breed a 2 year old male though, or is it not something to risk?

Err, I was talking about the father (male gerbil), as well as saying 'both parents'
