Keep an eye out for Fop versian called a Bernie its very good. If you are in the UK you can get them from www.meltonpets.com they only deal with pet shops and breeders as everything is trade price. Just tell them your a breeder they come in packs of two for £27.98 inc postage. They were very good we got them within 48 hours. THe gabbers do have a hole for the water bottle and two small holes on the top to slide wire throgh to hold the bottle on. Andrea

Andrea Was attempting to move the gerbils into the Duna today. Major problem arises: I know I can't use the sippy bottle. The bottle that I use is a "classic" bottle, same thing you have in the UK. It doesn't fit in the hole, and the top of the duna is slightly "domed",the bottle is completely tilted when I insert it. How do I connect it to the Duna? so, I will have to try and find another bottle. Maybe a habitral bottle would work. I just knew there would be a drawback to this.... Oh dear. Meantime Oscar and Rasmus are still in their three storey cage.

no problem just use strong gardening wire or rose wire and make a longer wire to hold the bottle away from the duna I do it all the time

Yeah, I just have the suckers on like if you were using the sippy, then put the classic bottle thro the hole and wrap the normal bit of wire that comes with the bottle round the bottle and the suckers.. I will take a piccy laters for you.

I moved Oscar and Rasmus into the new cage today. First I put all their nesting material in there, and then I moved them. I expected oscar to get a mild seizure ,but it didn't happen. Maybe I feel more secure with them now. Both gerbils were very confused and I think they were a bit scared too maybe. Their old cage was quite tall, and they used to climb the bars, and now they are confused because they can't climb anymore. I'm going to put more bedding into the duna later. The ultimate would be to get a big aquarium. Anyway, they are doing fine.

I have attatched the bottle to the outside of the duna too, I used the plastic holder and some tape. Works fine.

After their first day in the duna the gerbils are doing OK. They were scratching the side walls (the transparent thing) a little, I feel a bit guilty about removing their climbing opportunities but I think this cage is better for them. Oscar has learnt to sit on my hand. So I guss I've tamed him a bit more now. OK...

The gerbils still miss their cage. I'm thinking of getting a big tank later and connect it to the old cage, they have been digging in the duna but appear to be confused about the missing bars, they scratch at the plastic walls. I thought moving them would be good for them.

Digging at corners is a very common behaviour for gerbils in captivity. In wire cages it is replaced by bar chewing. Provide lots of cardboard etc and other stimulation (tunnels, etc). Once stereotypical behaviour begins it is very hard to stop it I'm afraid.

Hi Just wanted to say that OScar and Rasmus are doing fine, they 've been burrowing in their new home and I took Oscar out for a run in the sofa the other day, he didn't go into a fit or anyhting. Seems he is not so epileptic now. (It's not my fault he was never really tamed) It was a great feeling , I could actually take him out of the cage for as long as I liked. (and he wasn't scared of coming out either)
