Watching the gerbils eat yogurt (they make little faces as they do) is almost as fun as watching them fling their bedding everywich way.
However, as they gradually get settled my shopping list grows. Theyr'e now living in a mayonaise jar, and have threatened to form a union and go on strike if I don't provide them with some aspen bedding. The pet store I got them from has only pine, the other hasn't even heard of aspen. Anyone know of a CHEAP place to buy it online, that would ship to a Canadian Address without charging me an arm and a leg?

petco.com petsmart.com are 2 major pet stores in the USA. I saw a HUGE bag of aspen for like $13. Try there. They should ship to Canada.

Or, you could drive to USA, get some bedding, and go back home, lol.

Unfortunately, there's a $19.00 fee on -top- of whatever you purchase, just for buying the aspen. So I'll have to keep looking, I think.

Have you tried Walmart? I get my aspen from them. Gerbils also do well with corncob or Carefresh. ALso Megazorb which I have yet to find. I would try to change the pine as soon as you can since pine has some oils that irritate the skin and is very bad for young gerbils. I hope those ideas have helped. Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm not using pine, I'm using corncob right now, but watching the little guys bonk their noses as they try to burrow is both amusing and heartbreaking, so I need to set them up so they can burrow a little better.

Have you tried toilet paper or paper towel rolls? Also they like the plastidc tunnels in the stores even though they chew them. It is sad watching them figure out what is going on and a bit humorous like the yogurt!!
