Aaah, one of my gerbils, Snowy, got out of his tank last night I'm really paranoid....My basement is in shambles, because im rearranging, so he could be anywhere. He had to jump down about 4 feet from his tank, too, although he could have possible climbed down. Usually when one of my gerbils escapes, they come out right away because they're so friendly. and are used to my feet, because I walk around the room when they're having a run-around...but I havent seen snowy yet...Maybe he's just scared? I've been vacuming a lot, and I'm playing The Beatles really loud. I think he'll come out a bit later as I clean...Im sure I'll uncover him somewhere....but Im so paranoid. Reassure me that he's alright haha

Aah, I still haven't found him. I've been looking for him all day, and haven't seen him. I'm so worried, but I have to go to bed.....gah...im never going to be able to get to sleep. There's no animals that could kill him...the rats are caged (they killed my bird earlier today...chewed off her face...it's a long story, it was a horrible accident) and my dogs don't come into the basement, and are unable too even if they want to.

Really sorry for you Crazycritter, that web page is very good, slightly different to my own methods.
If you do spot your gerbil, instead of the pipe and towel that is mentioned,I have found the cardboard inside from kitchen towel paper to work. You hold it as close to your gerbils face as you can reach, and they always run into it.I have successfully picked up the cardboard tube, with out dropping a towel over, with the gerbil inside every time. This method works best though,if your gerbil escapes whilst you are present, and you can see where it went. As you are not sure, where in the room he is,place an ordinary bucket,in the room with blocks at the side, for it to climb up.Inside the bucket, you will put some food, sunflowers and mealworms work very well.Don't have any other food anywhere for him.He should climb up the blocks, jump down into the bucket safely, and not be able to get out.I've not tried this with a towel, not sure how the towel would fall,if it was in a heap,it might give him enough hight to jump out.
I do hope you find him soon.

Is there any kind of place Snowy could have fallen down through? Like my Sandy, Snowy might find something that looks like a burrow and go down it! I hope you find her soon.. And I know how you feel.

that makes full sense when Random went missing she'd got herself in a tight spot behind my heavey files where she couldn't turn or climb. Luckily my hubby checked and found her there

Oh no, not my snoweeeey! Um, I might suggest you turn over your furniture to check if there are places he can climb into and hide. Also, yes, look for holes. I keep all the holes in my gerbil room blocked up, as well as the space under the cupboards, between the dryer and washer, etc. But yes, I've known tubes to be great for catching gerbils and degus. I use a poster holder roll, it works great. Another good tube is a christmas/wrapping paper roll.

Haha, yes, snowy is fine...he's a little mad at my sister though, I'm sure, as he had just gotten started on our door! ;D
I had a 2 week snake escape once too...we found her (California Kingsnake) one morning coiled underneath the oven burner when my dad went to make soup.

Good to hear that Snowy has returned safely! Any news on when Asha is due? That would have completely freaked me out if I had found a snake underneath the burner .

Hey Crazy, I am pleased to hear you found snowy. I do say I bet he is quite angry at your sister for having foiled his plan to chew off your door.

Really pleased to hear for 3 safe returns, your gerb and previously your Cali King, and Gill's corn. It is horrid whilst they are out, and, although usually found safe and sound, this isn't always the case,as poor Ryan had with Sandy. Lyd
