Unfortunately on Friday I lost one of my Cheesmans. He developed an absess on the eye and the vet said there was nothing that could be done as it was right on the surface of the eye and any treatment would be very stressful and unkind to him. the gerbillus species as a whole don't tend to respond to vetinery care well, not like there more hardy mongolian cousins. So he was PTS on friday. So poor Del Boy is now on his own with no hope of finding him a friend. Andrea

I'm sorry to hear that Andrea. I hope his little friend is able to cope with the situation.

Hey Andrea, I'm real sorry to hear one of your cheesmans passed away. You should try to get another to pair up with Del Boy. From experience, it has been very hard to put something to sleep and watch it go. But, at least it was peaceful and now, he is romping in Gerbil Heaven.

I thought I would let you know that Del Boy is doing fine on his own.
He loves having the food to himself, the bed to himself and my attention to himself.. Hes even back to his climbing on my hand to be stroked again. He even seems happier on his own, i have read that cheesmans do naturally nest solitarily but will tollerate company in captivity - this is the main difference between them and pallids.
I did think of trying him with a pallid, but I think it maybe more stressful on him and as I don't know how old he is I may well end up with a lonely pallid further down the line.

So sorry you had to deal with that Andrea, what rotten luck. I am pleased that Del Boy is enjoying himself though, when one of Stu's mong's died,I expected the other male to quickly pass on,before this, with only keeping females, whenever one of my girls died, the other would seriously pine and try to follow.Stu's male loves the solitary life as well,he's a happier gerbil, made me wish I'd tried splitting them up before...........
