Never mind.... after I asked, I saw another thread talking about the difference. However, Doom, can you post pictures of the different types of gerbils?

well I suggest a visit to www.gerbilshowsuk.org as well as looking at Peters website (the links above). Hopefully I can get my own site sorted soon. Basically the mongolian is Meriones unguiculatis (meriones being jirds) while pallids are Gerbillus perpallidus. Pallids are slimmer, slightly smaller, more intelligent, and absolutely charmign animals. Diet-wise pallids need slightly more protein than mongs. They come from North Africa (so sorry to the americans here but if they aren't in the US they can't be imported). They also need higher minimum temperatures than mongolians (egypt being slightly warmer on average than Mongolia ) They breed less readily than mongolians but can still produce a lot of pups. Care is similar to mongolians but they may be less reluctant to share their pups. They are not as popular as they deserve to be, I highly recommend them. If any of you are interested in keeping another species I would defintiely recommend pallids as the next step. Hope this helps. Pictures photobucket.com/albums/v252/MERMUM/pallids/?start=40

Take a restless gerbil and add to it and that's how they are, faster, more active and they climb high......necks and heads are favourites. They love it though so yes they are easy to handle OK here's a question (for an article I'm writing). If you where looking for information on them what would you ask?
