Ryan that shouldn't be a problem...innapropriate pictures and posts are easily deleted. I'm sure you mods could control that. Also it seems to me that non-members might be encouraged to join and learn more about gerbil keeping if they see the pictures, or at least some. Trolls who wnat to post innapropriate material will not worry about which forum/thread they post in either. To me the main GOOD reason for a members only photo section is so that they are only available to like-minded gerbily peeps. A single 'pics for guests' forum for those pics people are happy to share with everyone would allow people that choice. Even so I will respect any decision Peter makes in respect of this. For those unable to access pictures in the members section my photobucket is open access to everyone photobucket.com/albums/v252/MERMUM/with 2204 pictures (to date) I'm sure it has enough to keep anyone happy BTW Whitty...great pics hun

aw! Adorable pictures whitmoregirl Yes moderators would probably be able to delete the posts and keep them under control. It could just be temporary? See how things go for a while? Megan

The purpose for the photo section for members only is indeed that they can share those with like-minded people. That not everyone can see what you post. But there is no rule that photos cannot be posted somewhere else on this forum, in boards that are also open to guests, like this thread, the general Mongolian Gerbil board, off-topic, etc.

She is under 13 years old. Proboards requires that all members be 13 or older, due to some USA laws.

Yes, I am not allowed to because I am not 13. Only one year and a bit more than a month to go! hehe. Sometimes I hate proboards for making that law, not everyone that is under the age of 13 are completely immature. Besides it is just a gerbil forum! It's not like I am going on inappropriate sites! Oh well, it is ok being a guest, for now! ;D

It is not Proboards that has made that law, but the US government. By not allowing children under 13 to become a member they cannot create a profile with their personal information. The law was made to protect children online against abuse. Some other US based forums allow children under 13, but than they have less info in their profile.

From somewhere i read that children under 13 also had to have premission from their parents to be on forums, i wish i still had that link. I do think it is a good idea, there are just so many wackos out there, I know I'd like to know my children were safe from them.

I know I'd like to know my children were safe from them. Cute Andrea... is your dog going online?? LOL ;D But you're right... however, I do believe it's the PARENT's responsibility to moniter their children online... NOT the US Government...

I'm a youth worker. I work with young people from 5 to 25 in an IT environment. We teach them about internet safety and our biggest emphasis is stranger danger. The way I see it, when you have a small child you supervise almost constantly. As they grow you let them have more autonomy, and while you do so you teach them the dangers. This includes traffic, etc and STRANGERS. The internet is no different. We monitor them and prevent them accessing porn etc, but we cannot 100% protect them from people who pretend to be what they are not. All we can do is educate them to the dangers. I agree parents must monitor younger children online and educate them on how to stay safe. But like the 'great outdoors' society must also play it's part. So of course it is good when ISPs and so on look out for the kids safety.

I agree that yes I guess the internet is a dangerous place but sometimes the US needs to also think about what we want! They should try and imagine wanting to go onto a website that is completely safe and not being able to because other people from a country that you aren't even living in say that you can't because THEY decide that it is too dangerous. Maybe I think about it from that point of view because I am someone that is under the age limit Megan
