I understand that. And I agree that some users are very easily offended when they get advise that is meant well. And many times they should indeed accept it when for example it is truly hurting the gerbil. But what I also mean to say is that sometimes users that give advise are so convinced that their advise/opinion is what should be done that they don't accept that someone disagrees. That has and does happen on this forum as well. What I meant is, and I quote one of our moderators (pepandmax): We can all agree that cruelty in terms of starvation, abuse, or neglect is absolutely wrong, but what if someone prefers to let their pet die naturally instead of choosing euthanasia? Or sees nothing wrong with allowing nature to take its course and allowing a pair to breed without restrictions? With such things we should keep in mind that users here have different (cultural) attitudes.

I'm going to make a point in trying to answer people's question and resolving issues, since there seems to be a great deal of these right now on this forum.

I also personally think it is the younger members, alothough i cant really say much as i feel like i could have used the search more but i also found it hard to use. i think that far too many people are breeding gerbils without any experiance or knowledge of keeping gerbils correctly. I must admit when i first had Sparkle i didnt do any reserch (which i am asshamed of) but i did have a pair of gerbils when i was younger, the people did not give me any info in the shop where i bought him from, but they did know tht i didnt have a clue about gerbils and still sold him to me. Once i got him home i reserched alot about gerbils and found the things that went wrong this cost me another 2 tanks to get it right! I then found this forum and quickly learnt alot of others, and Sparkle is being looked after and is happy! I think that not reserching cost me alot of money with tanks e.t.c and stuff which i shouldnt have put in. I cant even imagen what happens when people dont reserch and breed! I just wish i reserched from the start!

I too find the search facility a bit hit & miss sometimes. And it's not really obvious to see the search button/icon either - maybe that should be made into a whopping great icon at the top somewhere so it smacks you in the face a bit more? And also just generally reviewed to see if it could be made easier to use.

I realy do think that smiley's help tell someones mood. By a simple click it could realy stop alot of missunderstandings ;D
I think stopping the post rank thing is a good idea certainly so people spamming.
On exsperiance I by no meens an an exspert but, do alot of reading and researching, I have many books and joined here when I started, I researched 6 months before desiding to breed. Although I only owned gerbil for about 20 months I have exsperiance in all types of animals and enjoy learning new things, and if having someone tell me what to do helps my animals then thats great.
I have only one things that drive me mad and that people that can not sex there animals, and the poor pups that follow suffer because of it. It makes me so so angry, to see people that have'nt done there reseach bring poor little lifes into the world. To me if you can be bothered to lern the basics of how to sex your pet, you don't deserve to have one.
I advise the best I can on many subjects here, and try and offer suport as well.
There has been some post's that sound rude, but it only a few members, and working together we can make this forum a better place.

I can't put this anywhere else so it seems, so I'll bung it here methinks!
Peter - If I've upset the staff by posting single smilies, could you not have PM'd me? Could I just say that I was not intending to 'UP' my posts (got too many as it is lol! and I'm not that childish) but just enjoying the banter on the 'slow chat' thread (sorry!) which I and others were participating in. After all, isn't that what it's for, or am I missing something?
As for the 'last 10 posts' does anyone actually use it? Personally I don't, never have if I'm honest. I just look at the blue 'NEW' signs and catch up. Perhaps it would be an idea to run a poll to see how effective this facility actually is? - just a thought.

RE: Last 10 Posts At the moment, I am working two jobs and having some health problems, so my personal time is pretty limited. Therefore, when I grab a minute to log on during the day, I hit the "last 10 posts" to try to catch up. I just don't have the time necessary to go through every board on the forum and figure out which ones have posts that need attention and which ones have posts that are more chat-oriented. So, yes, I do use that function Regarding the Slow Chat board, and this is just my opinion and not something I've discussed with anyone, I think that's what the board is for, with the exception of the 10,000 thread. That thread seems to be purely chat, without any unifying thread theme. In my opinion, it would be best to keep really rambling, off-topic discussions like that within the chat feature. Then, instead of every sentence being its own post, it would just be one line within the chat room. Does that make sense? And finally, Caroline, I seriously doubt that ANYONE would think that you were posting just to up your post count! And as ferrikins pointed out, using smilies can help to get your emotions across when you're just typing text So much of our communication is non-verbal, and that doesn't get carried across well on the internet. So I don't see any reason why you should apologize! Hugs all around Nicole

a fish forum I use to belong to, had problems with post in Genral Chat, they made it so if you posted there it did'nt add to your post count, so stop people starting silly threads just to up there count. I not saying anyone has done this, just giving there soloution, I afaid they found the section occationly got to heated and ended up closing the genral board.

After all, isn't that what it's for, or am I missing something? You have not upset any staff members as did nobody else. The members who did cause really trouble with such posts (not only in the off-topic board) have been banned and/or deleted, mainly because we discovered that they lied on their age and were younger than 13 years old. And personally we don't have any problems with non-gerbil related posts. However we got some complaints on such posts, like on the "10 most recent posts" funtion. We are looking into a replacement / new board for playing games, etc. See the thread: Changes. As for the 'last 10 posts' does anyone actually use it? Personally I don't, never have if I'm honest. I just look at the blue 'NEW' signs and catch up. Perhaps it would be an idea to run a poll to see how effective this facility actually is? - just a thought. Yes, there are members who use it. We got some pm's on this.
