Below are the details of the first ever NGS Virtual Show 2006
The fun classes are open to all but to enter the main classes you must be member of the National Gerbil Society.
The following is a copy of the post in GSUK by Julian Barker:
Since the London Show in September we have had to cancel shows for various reasons. The committee has therefore decided that to help provide new opportunities to take part in shows, the NGS should run a virtual show - instead of brining animals together to have them judged, they will be judged from photographs. This type of show has already been run successfully by the American Gerbil Society. Sue Green has very generously offered to run the show and act as Show Secretary. Jackie Roswell will judge the standard classes, and all other classes will be judged by Marianna Worthy.
The show will be run as much as possible as a normal show, and normal show rules will operate as far as possible.
1. The Show will be a designated NGS show. Like all such shows, entrants to the main classes will have to be NGS members. There will also be a pet/fun class that will be open to anyone.
2. The Show will be advertised in The Nibbler, on the NGS website and on any other small animal website that wishes to advertise it.
3. Entrants will be able to send in their entries from the date of the announcement of the show up to the official closing date. There will be no entry fee for this first virtual show. Each member will be limited to 6 entries for the main show and 2 entries for the pet/fun classes. Non-members will be limited to 2 entries to the pet/fun classes.
4. An entry will consist of 2 photographs of the gerbil: a side profile showing the gerbil from the nose to the tip of the tail, and a close-up of the face straight on. For the pet/fun classes one photograph taken from any view will be required. Entries must be jpg format and no bigger than 800 pixels x 600.pixels. Pictures that do not conform to these specifications will be reformatted and cropped at the Show Secretary’s discretion. Each entry must state the class, age and sex of the gerbil.
5. Show preparation will be completed by the Show Secretary as it is for any other show. The classes will initially be the same as a conventional show, though the Show Secretary will have the power to amalgamate classes if there were too few entries. The entries will appear on the website in class order and display pen numbers only.
6. After the show has gone online there will be a period of 2-3 weeks before the winners were announced. During that time the judge will receive the Show schedules and judge the show in the same way as a conventional show. Until judging is complete, the judge will be honour bound to avoid any online debate about the show. To this end it will be helpful if all associated threads on bulletin boards were clearly marked.
7. As far as possible the judge will adhere to NGS standards. However, some things such as size and tractability will be difficult to judge from a photo. Inevitably the quality of the photograph will have some bearing on the outcome.
8. The following awards will be made:
Best in Show (Rosette)
Best Opposite age (Rosette)
Best Opposite sex (Rosette)
Best Self, Best White Belly, Best Marked, Best Exotic (all Rosettes)
Highest placed gerbil belonging to a Juvenile Exhibitor (Rosette)
Best Pet/Fun Classes(Rosette)
Certificates will be awarded to the winner in each class. Other place certificates will only be awarded if there were 4 or more entrants in the class.
In addition to best pet, there will be other certificated awards in the pet class. These will be -
Cutest pup,
Loveliest eyes,
Most natural pose
Most dramatic pose
Cheekiest pose
