first, i got a "hurricane" lamp thing...at walmart. a couple of bucks. then i got some pvc connecting pieces, and wrapped rope around one end because it was smaller than the openings in the hurricane. then i very carefully wedged the rope covered pvc in one end of the hurricane (not really stuck firm...mosty to keep wood chips from falling in) i placed one of those wooden gerbil houses (the kind with a toilet-paper-size hole in it) at the other end...for an exit. this is a very foreshortened view of what it looked like before i covered it all the way up with bedding tibbon's already back there in the hurricane, and gus is demonstrating how well the "doors" work and here is gus looking sleepy in the burrow. i put a little paper above the hurricane...to keep the wood shavings from blocking my window. i like to be able to see my gerbils sleeping

Very cool! What a great imagination you have. I am using a globe fishbowl for a house in one of my tanks. It's very neat to see them sleep.

Hey Betty, Excellent idea. What an idea. I had thought of pvc piping but only visioned it for going up. It is too slippery for them to climb up it!! I never thought of using it for a tunnel on it's side. I love watching them sleep!! It is so cool. I try to keep the box/house with the opening toward the front but they usually just burry it so I can't see . I am using a glass jar in one tank. I had used one before but they just used it for a potty. The only reason I have one in there now is because Bandit is pregnant . I'll post on the breeding section about that!!

yeah i love watching them sleep...unfortunatly my gerbils apparently dont like being watched! by this morning they had gathered up so much bedding in their burrow that i can't see them in it. they seem to love the new burrow though...and hopefully they wont dig at the corners of the tank as much now.
