What are the chances of having some blacks and maybe some other colors in that litter besides agouti? lol Agouti came from a litter with lilacs in it.. so who knows what kinds of reccessives she's carrying.

You have paired a black gerbil and a (golden) agouti gerbil? And the agouti came from a litter with lilac (aapp) pups in it? Than your agouti would have also Aa! So black (aa) with agouti (Aa) will give pups that have: Aa = agouti 50% aa = black 50% If the pups will have more colors depends on which other recessive genes they carry! If they both have Ee, than the pups can for example also be nutmegs (aaee). It is difficult to tell exactly which colors the pups will be, if I don't know the colours of the parents of your gerbils, and the parents of the parents, etc! After one or two litters, you will be able to tell which color genes they have!

They're only 7days old but I think I got an entire litter of agoutis.. They all have brownish spots on the head.. It's ok though. They're still cute. ;D

They look very dark! My golden agouti pups were not as dark as yours! But maybe it is the picture or you have a darker shade/type of golden agouti! Their is a difference in golden agouti. (picture from Gerbil Information Page - www.gerbil-info.com) Here you can see how different agouti animals can look. The one on the right is most common, though.

Weird then. The mother is definitly a golden agouti. So I'm figuring that's what the pups will be too. They all look the same now.. I thoguht one was going to be black cause she seemed to have more dark fuz.. but she's also the biggest..lol
Ah well, maybe I'll know better in a couple days. I'll post another pic if they look different again! ;D

aww cute ;D Yep definitly got agoutis. They're 11 days old now and they're getting more of the golden color everywhere. I have 3 girls and they all look like the mother.. I won't be able to tell her apart now..except maybe for the slight kink in her tail..

I have several golden agouti gerbils too, and in one tank it is father and son! I can tell the difference by a kink in the tail of the old father, and he looks old so that I can tell the difference too! He is 4,5 years old!

I read on another website that you can use an unscented, nontoxic permanent marker and mark a spot on their feet or tail...
Is that true and can I do that? lol

Fur-clipping is also an idea! I have used this very recently with my DEH male. His son that someone came to buy, looked almost the same as him. To see who was who I clipper the fur of the father! It will stay visible for 4-8 weeks (depends on the gerbil)!
