Hello all, I recently posted in the introductory area and did ask this question but I thought I might get a getter response asking here under the appropriate topic. I am just becoming aware that gerbils come in more colors then black and brown. I bought a very “in my opinion” beautiful male who I believe is a Siamese according to what I have seen on web sites. I’m hoping that maybe someone here can help me. I’m also curious to know how common this color various is. Is it easily found? I am very interested in getting back into breeding and If possible id like to continue down the line of this same genetic color. But first I need to know what it is, and what color female to get in order to start achieving this. Breeding is just a thought, but id like to know what I’m looking at here before I really consider or get involved. Here are a few pictures of him. His eyes aren’t red, they just reflected in the camera flash. Thank You

Yes that’s right, before I posted I picked him up and help him close to a light to see if there was a red color or undertone to his eyes but there wasn’t...
So do you think he’s a Siamese? Iv seen the Burmese but their fur color seems to look more brown then this.

How old is he? I doubt he is a siamese because siamese have dark fur on their nose and tail. I think he is a dove. (Dove as in color, not the bird dove ) ;D

Oh, BTW, the age is very critical for siamese. So, I stand corrected. He could be a siamese, just not finished molting yet. If he is young, might be siamese, if not, I say dove.

Thanks Ryan, Sound like your talking about a bird, what with all this dove and molting chat He does have a darker color of fur on his nose, his tail also has color and is a bit darker then the brown on his nose. But it is a light color, kind of light air brushed brown onto him. I didn’t know that the color of a gerbil would change so much as they got older. When I was younger I use to breed them, I had two breeding pairs, a brown and black one and a white and caramel colored one, all they ever produced was brown pups though. Then I gave a pup to a friend from the pair that were white and caramel and he bread that pup and got all the colors of the rainbow it seemed! white, black, brown, caramel... But they were always a solid color. Until I came to the USA I never saw gerbils with patchy like colors either, not to mention the pearl and Burmese colors.

Do you know roughly how old he is? He probably is a siamese.

Ryan, I just noticed your link to Gerbil Central Are you the creator of both the website and the forum? I noticed that the forum Admin was RyanF I just think that’s kind of funny because I recently put together a site for hamster lovers called Hamster Central.com and I also have Forum for the site that’s run by PHPbb, same as yours. Iv only had my forum up for a couple weeks now and I’m almost at 40 registered users and its quite active. If you like I can give you some tips of how to get more people to your forum. I tell ya once you reach 25 user that are all active you will need more then one moderator, it gets crazy! Check out my site and forum if you’re interested, the link is in my signature.

Aha! Yes, he is young, so I would say he is a siamese! I also have a siamese and she is beautiful. ;D Yes, I created GerbilCentral, the website and forum, and I run it. I have had it since August of 2004 or so, but I haven't found much time to work on it. I used to have more members, but then the server it was hosted on was physically destroyed in a fire. So, a lot of the forum and website data was lost. 40 members?!!? WOW! That is a lot for only a few weeks being up! how did you do it?

I agree that he is likely a siamese. Does he have any ticking (ie: dark tips to all the hairs)? He could also be a light colourpoint slate, because he looks more grey than brown. His points should darken with time.
